Disney, The Ohlone Museum and Thanksgiving with Grandma and Papa

November 30th, 2014

So much has gone on since Ella turned 9!  Two days after Ella’s birthday, we went to uncle Jesse and aunt Heather’s place and spent the weekend with them and at Disney.  Needless to say, Ella was in heaven.  She loves being with Jesse and Heather and loves Disney.  Here are some pics from our Disney weekend with our 9 year old.

Thank you Jesse and Heather for another amazing weekend.  We love you guys.

We came back from Disney heaven and then Sunny and I were treated to our own version of heaven – watching Ella thrive at school.  Ella’s class had an assembly and then treated us to an amazing project on the Ohlone people.  Ella’s class turned their classroom into a museum and all of the students acted as docents.  Ella was an amazing docent.

Here are some shots from the assembly and the classroom museum.

351.jpg Ella and her buddy Cecilia on some “lounge chairs” that they built.

Grandma arrived on Monday night so that she could go to Grandparents and special friends day at CDS.  Ella sang in the chorus for the grandparents.  Here is a great shot that grandma took of Ella and Emmi before they went on.

110.jpg

Here are some great shots that Colette took of Ella and grandma in the classroom.

212.jpg313.jpg Grandma was the first person outside of Ella’s classroom to read her non-fiction book on Disney.  We are going to get to read it on Friday when Ella’s class has their publishing party.

Papa arrived on Tuesday night and on Wednesday, the four of us (mommy had to go to work) went to the Lawrence Science Center.  It was a beautiful day and it’s so great to have grandma and papa here.

361.jpg The smile says it all – Ella couldn’t be happier that grandma and papa are here.

371.jpg381.jpg

Ella loved trying all of the different activities…

391.jpg39a.jpg

40.jpg These guys are quite a trio!

411.jpg421.jpg

We’ve had some pretty fun games of Bananagrams.  The one above shows the creativity that Papa and Ella were exuding.  Not quite sure what a “fairice” is.

431.jpgWe had our traditional Thanksgiving dinner at the Crab House.  We love this tradition!

441.jpg451.jpg461.jpg471.jpg481.jpg491.jpg50.jpg511.jpg521.jpgElla was flipping like nobody’s business.  She was flipping forward and backward.  She was amazing!

52a.jpg Thanksgiving selfie!

52b.jpg52c.jpg Cool piano steps.

53.jpgOff to the movies.

53a.jpg We saw Big Hero 6.  We all loved it.

53b.jpg Ella is super excited for this movie in July!

54a.jpgWe got Ella this difficult puzzle for her birthday.  We all have been working really hard on it.  Ella solved it 3 levels high on Tuesday.  By Thursday, Mommy did it!

54.jpg55.jpgFantastic job mommy!  You’re a genius.

56.jpg Papa and Panda during a game of Clue.

57.jpg58.jpg Something seems very funny!

Today we went to the De Young Museum to see the Keith Haring exhibit.  It was a really cool exhibit.

59.jpg60.jpgThree amazing people. Love you guys!

621.jpg Ella kept saying, “I need that neon paint!”

63.jpg Deep.

611.jpg True love.  We love you guys!  See you in three weeks.

Happy 9th Birthday Ella!

November 12th, 2014

Oh Ella – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  We love you so much.  You are such an incredible person.  We feel lucky to be your parents.  Thank you Ella, for all of the joy that you bring into our lives.  You are an amazing teacher.  You have taught us so much about life and love.  We can’t wait to celebrate with you in Disneyland!

Here are some pics from the few days.

1.jpgCecilia, Ella and Emmi before their last soccer game of the season.  Check out the fog behind them!

2.jpg Ella loves getting her soccer medals!

36.jpgThe 2014 Black Widows!

3a.jpg3b.jpg3c.jpg Colette sent these amazing pictures to us the other day.  The class is making tule boats out of straw.  Ella wove her straw boat together with raffia.  We saw it today in the classroom.  It was really cool.

49.jpg51.jpg First morning pics of our beautiful nine year old.

While Ella was at school and I was running errands, mommy was busy at home making Ella’s cake.  Ella asked mommy for an “Olaf” cake.  Instead of doing the sane thing and ordering it, mommy decided to make it.  It turned out to be an AMAZING cake and Ella LOVED it!  Great job mommy!  Here are the pics…

61.jpg71.jpg81.jpg91.jpg101.jpg111.jpg121.jpg131.jpg

I told you it was amazing!

We went to Ella’s school to celebrate her birthday, and then we picked up Stella and Juliet and we took the 3 girls to Benihana.  After dinner, the girls came back to our place and we had Olaf cake!  Not only did it look amazing, but it also tasted amazing.

141.jpg151.jpg161.jpg171.jpg

Happy Birthday Beautiful Ella!  WE LOVE YOU.

The World Series, The Giants Victory Parade and Halloween

November 2nd, 2014

I have way too many pics to post so I will be quick with my words.  It has been an amazingly exciting 2 weeks for the SF Giants and their fans.  We happen to be huge fans!  Although it’s sad that baseball is over, until pitchers and catchers report to spring training in February, it feels pretty good to get our normal lives back!  This is how our last week and 1/2 has looked …

3.jpg Happiness on a Friday night at the World Series.

4.jpg Having a blast with two of my co-workers at the game.

6.jpg Yes, believe it or not, those are sad faces.  We lost the game!

So much fun was had during this series…and the fun continued for Sunny and the Giants on Friday at the parade!

And then Sunny ended up at City Hall and took these amazing shots…

Visit from Grandma and Papa and the playoffs!

October 22nd, 2014

Wow – what a wild ride we have been on with the Giants.  In the middle of an intense playoff series, we had an amazing visit from the two most beautiful people in the world!  Grandma and Papa came to visit and it was terrific to have them here.  We hung out, went to Ella’s soccer game, went to the beach, mommy, Ella and papa played golf, we went to the Academy and of course, we watched baseball!  Here are some great shots from the weekend.

1a.jpg First night here – walking to Nama.

110.jpg A little chilly waiting for Ella’s soccer game to start.

210.jpg Three beauties at the beach.

32.jpg41.jpg Sweet love – soon Ella will be taller than grandma!

51.jpg So sweet!

61.jpg Now we can see their beautiful faces!

91.jpg101.jpg Thank you for indulging me with the pics!

111.jpg Sweet family shot!

Grandma and papa had to go and we weren’t able to go to any of the games with them.  Here is a series of our play off photos…we had a blast at the games!

201.jpg Uh oh – can we do this?

211.jpg Oy – this game is too close!

221.jpg Yes!  They did it!

231.jpg Ok – why not go to another game?

241.jpg We can hardly stand it!

251.jpg261.jpg Puttling our rally rags to good use.

271.jpg281.jpg291.jpg They did it again!

301.jpg OK – we could win the pennant tonight.  Let’s see what happens.

311.jpg We’re so excited!

34.jpg35.jpgThey did it!  The Giants are going to the World Series!

I have let too much time go by!

October 6th, 2014

I will try to keep up with this blog and our busy lives!  Let me first begin with a beautiful visit that we had from Nikki B about 2 weeks ago… 1.jpgSelfie at Ella’s soccer game. 2.jpgNikki B took us out to a delicious dinner at the Slanted Door to celebrate Sunny’s 60th. 3.jpg4.jpg5.jpg7.jpg8.jpg Ella had some amazing cotton candy for dessert.  She loved every bite! 6.jpg I had a little fun with the cotton candy too! 9.jpg On the walk home… 10.jpg Ella and Nikki B made all of these creatures!  Talk about patience. 11.jpgRosh Hashanah.  Someone is peeking! 12.jpg Our last date night of the 2014 regular season. 14.jpgAs a family, we took part in a 5K for breast cancer.  The head of the middle school at Ella’s school recently died of breast cancer, so a whole bunch of families from Ella’s school walked or ran in her memory.  Ella is her daughter’s buddy this year at school. 13.jpgHere is Ella and her buddy Sophie and two of Ella’s friends Marlowe and Jasmine. 15.jpgCDS representing for Josee! 17.jpgBuddies! 16.jpg Ella and her friends. 18.jpg19.jpg20.jpg Ella and Emmi – forever goofy and wonderful. 21.jpg The homegirl.  I’m not sure what sign she’s throwing up. 22.jpgEarly morning love. 23.jpg24.jpg The wildcard game was out of town, but the Giants opened up AT&T park so that the fans could watch together on the jumbo tron.  Sunny was on her way back from LA and met us at the ballpark during the 7th inning.  We all watched the Giants win the wildcard that night.  It was a lot of fun! 25.jpg26.jpg27.jpg28.jpg29.jpg30.jpg31.jpg Shots from the classroom.  Thank you so much Colette.  If you are reading this, we truly appreciate each and every picture that you send us.  It’s amazing to be able to see Ella while she is learning and thriving!

Life is beautiful – we need to cherish every moment

September 15th, 2014

I’m doing some more catching up here – as I write this I am feeling so lucky that we have so much beautiful love in our lives.  Ella – you are the greatest gift – you are becoming such an amazing person.  OK – enough mush – now onto the pics.  16.jpg21.jpg31.jpg41.jpg51.jpg61.jpg111.jpg121.jpgFall soccer has started up again.  The Black Widows are 2 – 0.  They have been playing some pretty rough teams, but these girls are full of love and support and heart.  It’s a little nerve-racking to watch when Ella is playing goalie, but it’s also so cool to watch these young girls take charge of the field and of themselves!

131.jpg After the game on Saturday, Ella and I headed over to to the beach.  Someone had told me that there were a bunch of sand dollars on the beach.  We ran down to the water and found tons of sand dollars.  We brought home a bag full.  It was a nice little nature detour.

71.jpg Last Sunday, we went to my friend’s baby shower and Ella made them this beautiful onesie.

81.jpg On Tuesday, we went to they Giants game and were treated with this beautiful orange moon.

91.jpg Someobdy thinks she’s ready to drive a car!

141.jpg151.jpg161.jpg17.jpg18.jpg19.jpg211.jpg22.jpg23.jpg24.jpg25.jpg All of these great shots were taken on Strike Out Violence Day today.  It was a beautiful ceremony and Sunny was honored along with 6 other women for the amazing work that they do to help end domestic violence.  Ella was so proud to be on the field with Sunny.

26.jpg27.jpg28.jpg Colette sent these shots to us this week.  Here are three photos with Ella and her buddy.  This year, third graders are buddies to kids in the kindergarten class.  Ella really likes her buddy and can’t wait to hang out with her.

29.jpg30.jpg311.jpg This is a pic of Ella right after she found out that she didn’t have lice!

32.jpg33.jpg More amazing work going on in the classroom!

A little bit of catching up and Ella’s first day of 3rd grade!

September 3rd, 2014

Our minds are blown that Ella is began third grade today.  Seems like just yesterday, we were bringing our not quite three year old into the Leaping Lizards classroom at CDS!  Ella loved her first day and we can’t wait to watch her grow and learn and keep on being Ella!  Here are some pics and a video from the past week.  The video is more Circus Camp fun.  The first part is the flying trapeze (Ella’s friend Cecelia filmed it) and the second part is of Ella’s second performance.

1.jpg Ella is loving her “flash” tattoos.  this one is like a henna tattoo!

2.jpg Emmi and Ella after the first show.

3.jpg Ella loved the circus face painting.

4.jpg5.jpg6.jpg Ella completely loved getting to spend time with Bronwen and Georgia.  We loved it too.

7.jpg8.jpg Ella had some pretty fancy jumping moves.

9.jpg10.jpg Ella spent some great time with the Kim/Arena clan this past weekend.  It was great to have the kids hanging out again.  Their new place has a pool and it was great pool weather this weekend.  They all had a blast.

11.jpg New art installation near the Ferry Building.

12.jpg Sunny and I went to a really sweet wedding on Sunday.  Sunny started the ceremony with the blowing of the shofar.

13.jpg Ella’s first day of third grade!

Circus camp and Jumping

August 25th, 2014

Ella had a great week at circus camp and then had a great weekend with her cousins Georgia and Bronwen.  They had a sleep over on Friday night and we all went to the House of Air on Saturday.  I have made 2 small movies that show some of the fun.  Enjoy!

Photos will be posted tomorrow.

Continuation of Ella’s most excellent summer!

August 20th, 2014

Since coming home from Hawaii, Ella has been to soccer camp, tennis/swimming/skateboard camp and now she is in circus camp.  Our cousins Georgia and Bronwen are visiting from NY and we already had a really fun dinner together.  They are going to sleep over this weekend.  Ella has spent a lot of time with Stella and Juliet (who are now in Hawaii) and who also moved to another apartment across the street.  I don’t thing it has sunk in for any of us, but the Kim/Arena clan are no longer our next door neighbors.  With them being across the street, it will help with the adjustment for the next year until they move into their new home.  We will be having many Friday night movie nights together this year!  Ella also spent a few hours with me at work on Sunday.  She brought her Heeleys and had a lot of fun skating around the hallways at my school.  Notice in the video that while Ella was having a blast, the school is kind of falling apart.  We never got the opportunity to watch Ella at tennis camp so I never got any pictures there.  Today, I picked Ella up from Circus Camp and she showed off her skills on the stilts.  That is also in the video.

110.jpg Ella before soccer camp.

210.jpg Beyonce and Jay-Z had 2 concerts at AT&T Park.  Here we are taking a walk around the park and listening to the show.

310.jpg410.jpg510.jpg Ella and her cousins!  She loves hanging to with them.  Georgia was cracking Ella up!

610.jpg Heading over to our first ballgame in a while.  Giants came back from a 1 – 5 score and won 6-5!

72.jpg A shot of my classroom that Ella helped me set up.

Fantastic trip to Kauai

August 8th, 2014

We had a wonderful family trip to Hawaii…12 days in paradise.  It was completely relaxing and beautiful and we had a lot of fun.  I have a lot of pics to post so I will do a little narration as I go along.

1.jpg First shot of Ella in the pool.

2.jpg3.jpg The first beach that we went to was the beach at the St. Regis hotel.  It is a sweet little beach with pretty good snorkeling.  See for yourself…

4.jpg5.jpg6.jpg7.jpg Here are some of the shots that we took with our new under water camera.  Sometimes it’s hard to tell what your are getting pictures of, but we did a pretty good job.

8.jpg A little chess after snorkeling.

9.jpg One of the many trips to the shave ice places.

10.jpg11.jpg12.jpg There was an arts festival in Kilauea on Saturday night.  Sunny and Ella both got henna tattoos.

13.jpg14.jpg15.jpg16.jpg17.jpg18.jpg These were taken at Lydgate Beach.  We are in one of the manmade enclosed ponds.  The rocks keep the big waves from coming in.  There is decent snorkeling and great safe swimming.

19.jpg20.jpg21.jpg24.jpg26.jpg22.jpg23.jpg27.jpg25.jpg These shots were taken at Anini beach.  We didn’t go in the water too much at this beach.  It was a great day to fly a kite and walk around the beach looking for crabs and shells though.

28.jpgAnother shave ice.

29.jpg30.jpg31.jpg Ella still had fun in the kiddie pool at our hotel.

32.jpg33.jpg I’m not sure which beach this is, but it was a new one for us and we had a lot of fun here.

34.jpg35.jpg This was by far the best shave ice we have ever had.  The line was an hour long and it was worth the wait.  I had mango, Ella had hibiscus and Sunny had green tea.

36.jpgThis is Ella at Ke’e beach.  This beach is great for snorkeling.  I went out to snorkel while Ella and mommy were setting up the tent.  The first thing that I was was this…

37.jpg38.jpg My luck!  I saw this eel.  I wanted to throw up but I decided to be brave and take a picture.  I am happy that I did.  Here are some other great shots from our day at Ke’e beach.

39.jpg40.jpg41.jpg42.jpg43.jpg44.jpg45.jpg46.jpg47.jpg48.jpg49.jpg This is a beautiful spot in paradise.

50.jpg51.jpg52.jpg Nothing says vacation more than playing mimi golf in a botanical garden!

53.jpgBelieve it or not, this was the only rainbow that we was the entire time that we were away!  We usually see at least three.  It was a lot less rainy than it usually is.

54.jpg This goose would come visit us on our deck from time to time.

55.jpg56.jpg57.jpg On August 2, there was a sand sculpture contest at Hanalei Bay.  It was so cool to watch the people build their creations.

58.jpg This is a shot that I took from a much more quiet part of the beach.

59.jpg Beautiful Ella on the bay.

60.jpg61.jpg62.jpg63.jpg64.jpg On Saturday night, we had dinner at the Tavern which is a restaurant in the Princeville clubhouse.  We had a great dinner and the views were wonderful, especially at sunset.  Ella took most of the pics here.

65.jpgFor our last day, we wanted to go to Tunnels but when we got there, there was a paddle board race and a sleeping seal on the beach.  We weren’t allowed to go in the water near the seal.  It was really cute but we decided to go back to Ke’s.

66.jpg Sweet seal!

67.jpg68.jpg69.jpg70.jpg71.jpg A perfect way to end our trip – a beautiful day at Ke’e beach!
