Ella goes to the doctor

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Today, Ella had her 2 year check up. Before the check-up, Sunny, Ron and I took a tour of the SFJCC for pre-school for the girls. We had to take Ella with us because the JCC is very close to her doctor’s office and we weren’t going to have time to go home and bring her back. We put her in the daycare drop-in place at the JCC – a place that was strange to us and strange to Ella. Ella looked in the room, saw the toys and kids and took off. She did not look back at us, she didn’t even wave – she just went right into the room. The lady told us that they would be moving her into a bigger kids room in a while and gave Sunny a pager to hold just in case they needed to find us. We went on the tour (about an hour and 10 minutes) and the pager didn’t buzz at all. We went down to find her in the big kid’s room and one of the women in there was holding Ella. She told us that she did a great job but about 10 minutes before we arrived she started looking for me. I gave her a big hug and she seemed relieved that we were back. Later on during the day, Ella said, “Mama, I was looking for you” then she said, “Mama you came to get me”. I explained to her that any time Sunny and I dropped her off anywhere that we would come back to get her. I asked her if she had fun at the daycare place and she said that she had fun. She said that she played with friends and played with macaroni. I asked her what the macaroni looked like and she said, “Just like mac and cheese”. I have no idea what she was talking about.

OK – the doctor visit. We have been preparing Ella for this visit for a few weeks. She is so super aware of everything that is going on that we thought we should let her know what was going to happen at the doctor’s office. We reminded her that the doctor’s name is Dr. Rosenbaum, and that the nurse is Nurse Nancy. We told her that Nurse Nancy was going to weigh her and measure her and then give her a shot. We told her that the shot was going to hurt for a short amount of time and then she would get a band-aid and it would start to feel better. We told her that the doctor would look at her ears and eyes, listen to her heart, touch her elbows and knees and ask us a lot of questions. Ella did a really great job. She wasn’t relaxed at all, but she wasn’t hysterical for the whole time. She actually warmed up to Dr. Rosenbaum. He asked her to sing her ABC’s and she started to sing it in a joking way. Then Sunny started singing “A You’re Adorable” and Ella joined in with her blowing the doctor’s mind. He said that he thinks Ella knows more stuff that a lot of 3 year olds. We agree with that. As for her height and weight…Ella weighs 23 pounds and is 32″ high. She’s a pip squeak in the 10%. We love her just the way she is. She was very brave during the shot. She cried for 30 seconds and then was all better when she got her shiny band-aid.

At night, Sunny took us to the Giant’s Community Fund Holiday party. I decided to let Ella get dressed up. She wore this beautiful outfit that was given to her last year. She topped off the outfit with borrowed tights from Juliet and her red sparkely shoes that Helen gave her. She looked really cute and seemed to love what she looked like. I took pictures that I will now share.

This is a little bit of a fake smile, but that’s what I get when I ask Ella to show me her teeth.

Dinner singing, dancing and a trip to Borders

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Tonight at dinner, Ella was super chatty and was singing up a storm. I had to go get the camera. She improvised her favorite song, “Hey Lolly” to “Hey Grandma – Hey Papa”. After that, she sang “La lechuza” – a song that she learned from watching a Dora video. After that song, Ella did her version of “Tiny People” by uncle Michael and then went into a very silly version of “Take Your Time” by AJ. After singing, Ella told me that she wanted to hear the “Hey Lolly Lolly” music and she did a great crazy dance. It was pretty early and Ella had a lot of energy, so Sunny and I decided to take her across the street to Borders so she could burn some energy. Ella loves the ribbons at Borders. The last part of the video is Ella giving us ribbons at Borders when a rude employee there told us that we weren’t allowed to take pictures in Borders. I am going to go back tomorrow without Ella and take that guy’s picture. Enjoy the video.

The Zoo

Monday, November 26th, 2007

This morning, Ella woke up really wanting to see Stella and Juliet.  It has been a few days since they have really hung out.  Today, we all went to the zoo.  It turned out to be a beautiful day weather wise (it’s usually freezing over there) and it wasn’t as crowded at is has been, so it was great.  The girls saw the reindeer, went on the carousel, went to the children’s zoo and the petting zoo, went into a creepy insect exhibit (at least creepy for me), had lunch and then played at the park in the zoo.  Ella fell asleep at around 2:00 and she is still sleeping…it is now 4:38.  Here are a few pictures from the zoo today, I am working on a little movie.

I stole this from Stella and Juliet’s website.  I’ll try to get a bigger one later, but this is just too cute to not put on.

The Crab

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Tonight we were at Acme and Sunny ordered Dungeness Crab. It was an appetizer – only the legs or claws or whatever you call them… Anyway, Ella saw the crab and looked curious. I tried to get her to hold a leg and she had a very funny look on her face – not really a happy one. After a few moments, she was kissing the crab leg. Luckily, it was caught on film.

Keeping the girls busy

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Today, we tried to get an early start on the day and went to the Bay Area Discovery Museum. It was a beautiful day in SF and the girls had a really good time. At one point during lunch, Ella was letting us know that she remembered who she was there with before…out of nowhere she started yelling, “Hi Stella, hi Juliet, hi Helen”. It was really sweet. The girls both fell asleep in the car on the way home and then took pretty long naps. After the naps, we hung around a little bit and then took another walk around the ballpark. The weather was still beautiful, but a little crisp. We had dinner at Acme where Ella discovered that she loved the tea that I drink there. There are some cute pictures.3playing.jpgSunny, Ella and Clara playing with the fishiescollectingfish.jpgClara went around and collected lots of fishbee.jpgHere’s Ella in her bee vest. Happy Thanksgiving

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

We all want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving. Hope you all had a great day. We all certainly had a fun filled day. We took a nice walk around the ballpark and walked along the water. Clara and Ella played hard in the playground and then we had some grilled cheese and french fries. After lunch and the park, we came home and the girls took naps. We had an early Thanksgiving dinner – Sunny did a beautiful job preparing the food. After dinner, I made cupcakes, we had dessert and then the girls took a bath together. They had a blast. Then we watched a little bit of Ratatouille and read lots of books. The girls are now sleeping soundly.

Ella meets her cousin Clara

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

This afternoon, Sunny’s nephew Dan and his daughter Clara arrived from Denver for a Thanksgiving visit. Clara will be 4 in a couple of months. The girls hit it off right away. Ella loves older kids and she was very exited to share her toys and books with Clara. We all went across the street to Amici’s for dinner. The girls shared some pizza, noodles and spaghetti. They both did a great job eating dinner and then found a place in the restaurant to dance around, sing and of course play ring around the rosie. After dinner we walked to the ice cream store and the girls had ice cream. We came home and all hung out watching videos from Ella’s adventures. Clara decided from watching the videos that she wanted to go to the Bay Area Discovery Museum from watching all the videos. We will go there on Friday. Here are some sweet pictures.

Hmmm…what should we get to eat? What do you recommend, Ella?

This is a cute picture, but I really put it in because I wanted you to notice Ella’s silver glittery shoes. They were a gift from her fairy godmother Helen. Ella loves them so much that she woke up this morning asking for them.

Monday with Ella

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

We had a very busy weekend that ended at IKEA last night. Ella was fantastic at IKEA, she slept in her stroller the whole time. Sunny and I got a lot of things that we needed. We’re trying to keep things neat in a home where there is a two year old – good luck. Ella made a pee on the potty again on Sunday morning. She seems to be getting the hang of it. Sunny told me that Ella told her every time she pooped today. It was after the fact, but I think the first step is an announcement. Ella has continued to sleep through the night. As a matter of fact, she slept for 12 hours the other night! Here are some pictures and 2 videos. The videos are of Ella at Acrosport with Sunny today and then Ella and Sunny later on during the day. We bought Ella and easel at IKEA and the video is of Ella in action.

Ella was a busy little girl today

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

First of all, last night, Ron, Sunny and I went to a pre-school to hear about their philosophy on diversity. Helen took care of the girls. We really enjoyed going to the school – we all really like the school but the girls had an amazing night. They all had dinner together, played games, had a pony tail party, a sock party…Juliet showed Ella how to vacuum – so much more. Ella didn’t go to sleep until around 10:45 last night. She woke up at 8:50. We were a little late to a play date at their friend Tyler’s house. (Tyler is that cute little guy who was Pooh last year and a seal this year). We finally got there at around 10:30 and picked up two other friends on the way. The kids had a great time at the play date. There were times when they were playing together, other times that they were parallel playing, at other times they were trying to steal toys from each other. Tyler has a little thing for Juliet and that was captured with a kiss. Then at the end of the play date, he tried to plant one on Ella. After Tyler’s our 3 girls went home to our respective houses, had lunch and the girls took naps. At around 4:00, Stella and Juliet came calling for Ella. They had mac and chesse and painted. After the painting, they each got their baby strollers and were running around the hallway. At around 6:30, Sunny and I took Ella to the gym. Sunny is still on the mend from a very bad strain of the cold, so I took Ella in the pool by myself. We had dinner at the pub and came home, played, read books and put Ella to sleep.smile1.jpgHere is Ella hanging out at Tyler’s house and feeling happy.thomas.jpgHere’s Ella in the Thomas the Tank Engine tent.
