Day trip to Santa Cruz

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

On Sunday took a ride to Santa Cruz to meet up with our friend Rebecca and her daughter Ella who were visiting from NY.  When Ella saw the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz she said, “Oh – I am so excited, I love Santa Cruz.  I can’t wait to go to the carnival!”  Ella’s enthusiasm is so fantastic and sweet.  We had a really fun day and Ella wants to go back.  We were supposed to go to Hawaii today but we postponed the trip for next summer.  There were tropical storms heading towards Kauai and we decided that we didn’t want to risk being stuck in our hotel room because of thunder storms.  The whole reason we wanted to go to Hawaii was to relax on the beach and it didn’t really seem like we were going to be guaranteed to do that.  Instead, we are going to Guerneville for a few days.  I should have pictures up by Friday evening.

Ella and her buddies

We miss everyone back east.  Big hugs and kisses to all of you.  Ella of course has adapted to business as usual.  I love that about her.  She does not dwell.  She’s pretty much in the here and now.

Happy Birthday Aunt Heather

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

It seems like we have so much going on.  Cindy left today after visiting for 3 days and now we are getting ready to leave for Hawaii next week.  I am very tired so I will put a few pics up of Ella and then a happy birthday message from Ella to Heather.  Happy birthday SIL – Aunt Heather.  We love you.  Hope you have a beautiful day.

Muir Woods

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Today we took a little road trip to Muir Woods.  It’s such a beautiful place only about 1/2 hour outside of SF but the drive is brutal.  Sunny and I both wanted to throw up going and coming home.  The road is so curvy.  No wonder we rarely go.  Cindy loves it there, so we sacrificed our stomachs and went for it.  Ella really loved it – she loved the tall trees, the small creek,  and all the beautiful nature around us.

Swimming!

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

While we were in NJ, Ella spent a lot of time in the pool.  At the Leonia pool, Ella played most of the time in the kiddie pool.  At papa’s club, Ella hung out in the kiddie pool and then really started to love the big pool.  By the end of July, Ella took 2 swimming lessons and was taking some risks, but really did not want to put her head under water.  Ella built up a lot of confidence over the past month and all of her hard work finally paid off.  The video at the end of this entry shows Ella “swimming” at the pool that we go to.  Grandma and papa – you will be so proud when you watch this video.  Now we need to get her lessons so she can really learn how to swim.  Sunny’s sister Cindy came in tonight and we had a great dinner at Nama and then we came back here and Cindy read some books to Ella.  The books were “Angelina Ballerina” books and Ella and aunt Cindy acted out some of the dance moves.

Back in San Francisco

Ella was so excited to see Stella and Juilet, Bug and Towby.  She was talking about it on the plane and on the car ride home.  We pulled into our garage and who did we see…Juliet!  Ella and Juliet hugged and then Ella started talking non-stop to Juliet about who knows what.  Juliet came over and then Helen and KJ came over.  He is such a sweet, cute baby!  After a little while, Ron came over with Stella.  We all had dinner together and the girls played.  All of the “family” dynamics kicked right back in and they had a pretty incredible time together.  Today, Ron and I took Stella, Juliet and Ella to Fairyland.  It was a lot of fun.  The girls were terrific.  We all went out to dinner at Los Jarritos tonight – including KJ!  It was his first dinner out.  He was fantastic…all he did was sleep.  Ella is so happy to be hanging out with her buddies. We are also really loving getting to spend time with the Kim/Arenas…our built in family next door.1.jpg Ella giving KJ a kiss.2.jpg Having a deep conversation with Helen.3.jpg Over night, Ella’s artwork and letter writing has really improved.  She did this all by herself except we told her how to spell Stella and Juliet.4.jpg So happy to be going into Fairyland.5.jpg Ella and Juliet playing with their shadows.6.jpg7.jpg8.jpgFun on the ferris wheel.9.jpg Lots of fun on the carousel.10.jpg11.jpgElla and Juliet have a pretty intense dynamic.  Most of the time it’s love love love but sometimes they torture each other.12.jpg 13.jpg14.jpgHaving fun in the little house by the picnic area.15.jpg The girls were pretending to be pirates and this was their pirate ship.16.jpg17.jpg18.jpgPlaying on the big swirly slide.  The girls must have done this at least 20 times each.19.jpg Ella in jail.20.jpg The Kim/Arenas…all FIVE of them!21.jpg22.jpg23.jpg24.jpgElla loves dancing to the jukebox at Los Jarritos.  She even got me to dance!25.jpg Ella loves the iTouch.26.jpg Perfect KJ during dinner.
