Green light – Ella can go back to school

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

We kept Ella home from school today just to make sure that the lab results on her cultured nose were negative.  We also wanted to make sure that she was cleared to be around other kids.  The culture was negative and the doctor told us that Ella was cleared to go to school.  Ella and I actually had a great day together.  She was in a great mood although she really did want to go to school.  We had music on all day and Ella was singing everything from Miley Cyrus to the Sound of Music to the Beatles… We did this cool art project that Ella was really into.  Ella also helped me with stuff around the house.  I had her take all her towels out of the bathroom so that we could thrown them in the washing machine.  Ella had this big pile of towels and she couldn’t open the door to where the washing machine is.  She looks at me and says, “Can I have a little help here?”  So cute.  I don’t know where she comes up with this stuff.  Ella’s nose is pretty raw but she is not contagious.  I have to keep putting neosporin on it.  I spoke to grandma and papa today and they both got great reports from their doctors.  Papa is going to resume doing surgery on Monday and grandma can throw her slings away and start rigorous physical therapy.  Hopefully she will be driving in 2 weeks.  Way to go you guys!  You are taking great care of yourselves and each other.13.jpg Ella working on the project.22.jpg A few of the things Ella did today.  Once they dry, you can stick them on the window.

One extra day of winter break

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

We decided to keep Ella home from school on Monday – just waiting to hear from the doctor and make sure that she’s no longer contagious.  Ella had impetigo which sounds like a disease from the 1800’s and kind of looks like one too.  She’s been amazing and has really stopped picking her nose.  We think she’s good to go back to school but we don’t want to be that obnoxious family that sends their contagious child to school when taking an extra day could make a world of a difference as far as infecting other kids.  Today we met up with Debby, Toby and Rachel, had lunch at Nordstrom and then we finally made it to the Jewish museum.  It’s such a beautiful museum but really has limited art.  The Curious George exhibit was really interesting…the people who wrote the book escaped Nazi Germany, but I don’t think Ella was especially interested in that.  After the museum be had some delicious cream puffs at Beard Papa and then headed home.  After dinner tonight, Ella took a shower.  When she was finished, I took out a magnifying mirror and got her to take some of the stuff out of her nose.  It’s pretty gross, but it was all dried up and ready to go.  She got a lot out but when she saw that her nose was bleeding a little bit, she freaked out and started crying and wouldn’t get the rest of the stuff out.  I distracted her by showing her a Miley Cyrus video on my iTouch.  She said that her nose was hurting her a lot.  I think it probably did because it was raw, but the blood scared her.  Ella said that she really wanted to go to school and that she missed Ms. Alicia.  I don’t blame her.  She also said that she didn’t want to miss any learning.  I assured her that she would hopefully be back on Tuesday and that she had a lot of learning ahead of her.  ELla also told me that she really missed grandma and papa.  I told her that I spoke to them today and they really miss her too.  We’ll all see each other again in 7 weeks.  The photos today are unedited – it’s not so bad.12.jpg Ella on the train headed downtown.21.jpg This is a drawing of a baby hippo with glasses.31.jpg Ella and Rachel on the water steps.41.jpg Finally!  At the Curious George exhibit.51.jpg Ella got this toy at the museum.  She was making “contraptions”.61.jpg Ella took this picture of her contraption.  Look at her cute feet!

Happy New Year

Saturday, January 1st, 2011

We want to wish everyone who is reading this a happy and healthy new year filled with love and peace.  2010 was a tough one…for me the hardest part was losing Bug.  She was an amazing dog and a huge part of our family.  Hopefully this year her spirit will guide us to find a new doggie family member.  We celebrated the east coast transition from 2010 to 2011 at 9:00 here with the 5 of us.  My parents went to sleep at around 10:00 and Ella finally went to bed at like 10:45.  Sunny and I have made it to the west coast 12:01.  I am excited to see what 2011 will bring…1.jpg Today we met up with Phyllis, Michael, Zani, Hannah and Naomi to celebrate Naomi getting straight A’s at Berkeley.  Here are Ella and Zani walking into the restaurant.2.jpg Ella taking a picture of mommy and Phyllis.3.jpg Ella and her big sisters Hannah, Naomi and Zani.4.jpg Later on during the day, Hannah from upstairs came home from Tahoe and came down to pick up her fish Blue.  Ella was in the middle of doing an art project so Hannah joined her.5.jpg iPad parallel play.6.jpg Grandma, papa and Ella in their festive head gear.7.jpg Self timer.  Everyone was laughing because they were making fun of me and my dorky self timed shot.8.jpg9.jpg11.jpg Dinner and dessert.10.jpg Happy New Year beautiful Ella!
